regarding that boeing 787 dreamliner that caught on fire while parked at logan airport in boston. this is video of the japan airlines plane. the plane landed. all of the passengers left the plane. a mechanic was doing a walk-through when he noticed a light smoke condition increasing from the underbelly of the plane. they then called the fire department. the fire department came. they investigated. the fire was in a compartment with batteries and other electrical components. they are still investigating exactly what has happened. we have a call into boeing. boeing has not responded to our request for more information. i think boeing is still trying to figure out, base odd what they're hearing out of boston from the fire investigators exactly what's going on with the 787 dreamliner. a couple of things to keep in mind, scott. the mass port officials at boston just held a press conference where they said prior to this they've had a few mechanical issues, nothing major, regarding the 787 dreamliners that landed at that airport since they went into service. one other thing to keep in m

a change in d.c. could be good news for keystone pipeline and our disaster of the day. boeing 787, let's get to phil with the latest. >> talking about 787 dreamliner, japan airliner at the boston airport. boeing shares have been hammered, down 3% of the day, down 5% over the last few days. this stock has not fallen too much since october 2011. the market cap here greater than $3.1 billion. shows you how much investor headline risk is out there when it comes to boeing shares. here is part of the reason why. look at pictures in the last hour from boston. dreamliner suffered a fuel leak at boston airport. about 4,000 gallons of fuel leaking on the tarmac there. it happened on a flight scheduled to leave around noon to tokyo. remember december 5th, faa ordered all airlines to check their 787 fuel lines because japan airlines out of japan, they both reported problems. unclear if this leak due to the problem. one example of another problem in the last month when it comes to the dreamliner. we put this time line up here because this really shows you the headline risk built into boeing right n

to get to it on boeing. phil, over to you. >> we've heard from the ntsb, expecting an update from them. they have at least an initial report regarding the fire investigation of that 77 dreamliner in boston yesterday. the ntsb saying that they have decided they are going to send two more investigators to look at the dreamliner in question and that at least initially taking a look at the fire in question they found severe fire damage to the battery of the auxiliary power unit. remember, the auxiliary power unit is what is used to provide power to an airplane when it is parked on the tarmac, not while it's in flight so the battery unit, severe fire kagge there, and it's pretty clear, scott and maria, that we are going to see more airlines, if they haven't already, they are going to start checking their wiring on the battery unit. i just spoke with the folks out of ana in japan. they have a number of dreamliners, checked theirs overnight at the urging of the ministry of transportation in j.i just talked with united airlines. it has checked the battery power wiring on all of its dreamliners

&p 500 to the negative as well down almost six points, and nasdaq to the negative as well. boeing one of the pores performers of the dow today. the stock now down more than 2% as you can see on the strene. the story here, a boeing 787 dream liner catching fire this morning. no passengers on board, but the incident raises concern about dreamliner safety. considering there's been problems in the past with the electrical system on the aircraft. energy stocks notably weak, especially the big exploration and production companies even as oil prices are steady today. all three names in the red by a percentage drop, anyway, baker hughes, the worst performer now in the markets. now, money continues to flow out of utilities, and it's been that way, really, since the election back in november. look at these names here, the stock at 29.90. more than a 1% drop, and nrg and in the negative now as well as stocks on the radar in the final hour of trading. let's get to our floor show. we got traders standing by for you at the new york stock exchange, the cme group, and ben willis near the floor of the

market has been going up. i don't think it is measure everything boeing into the stock market. mutual fund numbers can be somewhat deceptive sometimes. i think the market needs to show positive performance before the fun numbers start to look better but i don't think it necessarily needs it. certainly didn't in 2012. sandra: john, i want to ask you about the commodities you just mentioned. looking at gold prices. we've seen some interesting movement there. they have been underperforming stocks to start off the year. i spoke to george girl row the over at rbc today. he says he believes we'll turn back to the basics. the commodity market will focus on the weak dollar which tends to boost commodities. it will focus on the low interest rate environment and we'll see a pop in these commodities again. is that your play? >> gold is special. i think, don't think of gold as a commodity. think of it as a currency. i think that is what the world's fourth or fifth currency, it will gain more popularity. everyone wants to deflate their currency. other commodities we need a stronger economy. could

reflected in shares of boeing which has ticked lower since these reports came out. there was a fire this morning on a 787 dreamliner parked at logan airport in boston. it is our understanding according to information we're getting out of boston that the fire has been put out. there were no passengers, no crew on the plane. what's unclear is what started this fire, whether it was something electrical, the plane, if there was something else. we've got a call into boeing to get more details. all we heard from boeing is they're going to be looking into these reports. so they're getting this information as quickly as we're getting this information. but the important thing to keep in mind here, carl, is that this is the fourth incident regarding a dreamliner. remember, we had the two reports from united of dream liners losing some power, some degree of power while in flight and then also a similar report regarding the first flight going over the qatar airways over doha. so now we have a report out of boston of a fire at logan airport on a 787 dreamliner, parked at a gate, no passengers, n

loser among industrial stocks was today's winner: boeing. the company was out defending its marquee plane, the dreamliner 787, after three issues in as many days this week. shares rebounded 3.6%. volume doubled. today the chief engineer for the program expressed confidence the 787 is safe. the other big winner in the sector was industrial equipment maker danaher. shares are at an all-time high after the firm raised its fancial forecast for the fourthuarter among the health care stocks rallying was medical device maker stryker. it makes replacement knees and hips. preliminary quarterly results were encouraging after a recent slowdown blamed on weakness in europe. shares moved up to a new 52 week high. u.s. sales had been under pressure as well from insurance companies becoming more conservative in paying for elective replacement surgeries. the fight for clear-wire is on. clear-wire is a wireless broadband technology compay. sprint owns half of the compa and has offered to buy the rest, but dish network topped sprint's offer, as dish continues moving toward offering its own nationwide
